How can we be confident in God?

Wednesday 19 July 2017

Do not be afraid of sudden terror, Nor of trouble from the wicked when it comes; For the Lord will be your confidence, And will keep your foot from being caught

Proverbs 3:25-26

The scripture above tells us not to be afraid of sudden terror, or trouble when it comes because the Lord will be our confidence. How can we be confident in the Lord?

1, Look at His past records and see what He has done

God has done a lot for us and we should remember in the time of trouble that the same God who has delivered us in the past, will also deliver us again and this should make us confident in the Lord.

We must be like David and keep a record of all that God has done so that when trouble comes we can remind the enemy that the same God who delivered us then is able to deliver us again:

David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.

1 Samuel 17:37 (KJV)

2, God is not like man that He should lie

God is not like man, therefore we know that we can put our confidence in Him because He will always do what He promised to do. If God has given you a promise, hold on to it and live a holy life free of sin so that His promises can come to pass in your life:

God is not a man, that He should lie; neither the son of man, that He should repent: hath He said, and shall He not do it? or hath He spoken, and shall He not make it good?

Numbers 23:19 (KJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me not to be afraid when trouble comes but to put my hope and confidence in you in Jesus name.

How do we become people of integrity?

For only the godly will live in the land, and those with integrity will remain in it.

Proverbs 2:21 (NLT)

We are told that the godly will dwell in the land and those with integrity will remain in it. So the question today is, how do we become people of integrity?

1, Keep to your word

To be a person of integrity is to be a person that keeps your word even when it is not convenient. It is easy to make a commitment however sometimes keeping them is very difficult, but a person with integrity will do what they said even if it’s not convenient:

Those who despise flagrant sinners, and honor the faithful followers of the LORD, and keep their promises even when it hurts.

Psalm 15:4

2, Be honest

Honesty is a true test of integrity. When you are honest it means that you tell the truth even if it doesn’t suit you. We are told to let our yes be yes and our no be no (Matthew 5:37):

Who may worship in your sanctuary, Lord? Who may enter your presence on your holy hill? Those who lead blameless lives and do what is right, speaking the truth from sincere hearts.

Psalm 15:1-2 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to be a person of integrity. Help me to keep to my word and to be honest in everything I do in Jesus name.
