What are the benefits of wisdom?

Wednesday 12th July 2017

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left.

Proverbs 3:13-16

There are so many benefits to having wisdom and today we will explore some of these benefits:

1, Having wisdom makes you joyful

The scripture above tells us that joyful is the person who finds wisdom. This is indeed true because we are told that wisdom brightens a person’s face and softens’ its harsh appearance:

How wonderful to be wise, to analyze and interpret things. Wisdom lights up a person’s face, softening its harshness:

Ecclesiastes 8:1 (NLT)

2, Wisdom offers you a long life

We know that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and we are told that the fear of the Lord will prolong your days on earth:

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

Proverbs 10:27 (KJV)

3, Wisdom offers you riches

The wisdom of God offers you riches because you will have God-given ideas that if you will implement can make you rich beyond your imagination. We all have thousands of ideas going through our minds each day and many of them are ideas from God about what He wants us to do to make us rich. The secret is to take one of those ideas that you know is from God, work on it and never give up until it becomes successful. When you are rich you will be able to bless the poor:

Wisdom can make you rich, but foolishness leads to more foolishness.

Proverbs 14:24 (CEV)

4, Wisdom offers you honor

When you are a person of wisdom, you will have honor and others will hold you in high esteem:

If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will honor you

Proverbs 4:8 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to fear You because I know that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

Why you should honor the Lord

Wednesday 14 June 2017

Why should you honor the Lord with your wealth?

Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first part of your harvest. Then your barns will be full of grain, and your barrels will be overflowing with wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10 (ERV)

We are being encouraged in this scripture to honor the Lord with our wealth and the first part of our increase. When we do, the Bible tells us that we will reap the following benefits:

1. Your barns will be full of grain

Your barns refers to your storehouse, the places where you keep the proceeds of your harvest or earnings. This could refer to your finances, your business, your ministry, anything that you lay your hands to, God has promised to bless it:

The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you.

Deuteronomy 28:8 (NIV)

2. Your barrels will overflow with wine

Barrels overflowing with wine gives us a picture of abundance and joy that comes when we receive the Holy Spirit into our lives. When we honor God He blesses us with so much more so that we can be more of a blessing to others:

The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.

Joel 2:24 (NKJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I choose to honor You with my wealth and the first part of my earnings. I know that as I do You will bless me with abundance and joy in Jesus name.

Why it is so important to be kind?

Wednesday 3 May 2017

Why is it important to be kind?

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!

Tie them around your neck as a reminder.

Write them deep within your heart.

Proverbs 3:3 (NLT)

There are two virtues that we told in Proverbs 3:3 that should never leave us, loyalty and kindness. Today we want to examine why it is so important to be kind.

1, When you sow kindness you will reap kindness

The Bible tells us that we will always reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). Therefore when you sow kindness you too will reap kindness:

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

2, Kindness is an act of love

When you are kind, it shows that you are obeying the first commandment of the Lord which is to love the Lord our God and to love our neighbor as ourselves:

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT)

3, Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit

Kindness is one of the fruit of the Spirit that we as believers should produce in our lives:

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to be kind. Help me to help other people who are in need and sow acts of kindness in other people’s lives in Jesus name.

Jesus Christ, Joy, Laughter, Praise, Rejoice

A time for Joy has come!

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a time and a season for every purpose under heaven:

A time to weep,

And a time to laugh;

A time to mourn,

And a time to dance;

Ecclesiastes 3:4

I hear the Lord saying that now is the season and time to laugh and to dance. The Lord is telling those of us who have shed tears, some of us publicly, some of us privately, that we will reap a harvest of joy. From today God Almighty is telling us to rejoice in Him. Let us sing, let us shout, let us play instruments of praise, let us dance before the Lord our maker:

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Psalm 126:5

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Psalm 30:5

Prayer:

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:13

Our joy truly comes from God, and if you want to have Joy in your heart today, please pray this prayer with me:

Now may the God of hope fill me with all joy and peace in believing, that I may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost, in Jesus name, amen.

How do we get joy?

We began by looking at what is joy, and then the effects of joy. None of this will be useful unless we know how we can get joy. Here are some suggestions according to the Word of God:

1. Surrender our lives completely to Jesus. We do this by repenting or turning back on our sins. When we do this even God and His Angels rejoice:

I say to you that likewise there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine just persons who need no repentance.

Likewise, I say to you, there is joy in the presence of the angels of God over one sinner who repents.”

Luke 15:7, 10

2. Obey the commandments of the Lord

If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.

These things I have spoken to you, that My joy may remain in you, and that your joy may be full

John 15:10-11

3. Ask God to anoint you with the oil of gladness

Until now you have asked nothing in My name. Ask, and you will receive, that your joy may be full.

John 16:24

4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost.

1 Thessalonians 1:6

 5. Become born again into the Kingdom of God

For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17

6. Make a choice to be joyful. Offering sacrifices of joy – Psalm 27:6; sing praises unto the Lord, offer shouts of joy (Psalm 35:27); play instruments (1 Samuel 18:6); jump or leap (Luke 6:23).

Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice

Philippians 4:4

7. Come into the presence of God – get alone and be quiet before Him.

Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.

Acts 2:28

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.

Psalm 16:11

How do we get Joy:

  1. Repent of our sins and surrender our lives to Jesus
  2. Obey the commandments of the Lord
  3. Ask God to anoint you with the oil of gladness
  4. Be filled with the Holy Spirit
  5. Become born again into the Kingdom of God
  6. Make a choice to be joyful by offering sacrifices of joy
  7. Come into His presence

What are the effects of joy?

In my last blog we looked at what joy is. Today, we will be looking at the effects of joy:

1. Strength – strength in your spirit, in your mind and in your body

Then he said unto them, Go your way, eat the fat, and drink the sweet, and send portions unto them for whom nothing is prepared: for this day is holy unto our Lord: neither be ye sorry; for the joy of the Lord is your strength.

Nehemiah 8:10

2. Feeling of lightness – the Bible tells us that the Jews felt light as a result of their deliverance from Haman

The Jews had light and gladness, joy and honor

Esther 8:16

3. Victory and Deliverance comes through joy – when we rejoice ourselves in the Lord. The Lord wants us to be a people of joy, not sadness. Whether we are alone in our homes or we are gathered together with other believers, we should be singing and dancing unto the Lord. As we do this we gain strength and all the chains that the enemy has around us is broken:

Let the saints be joyful in glory;

Let them sing aloud on their beds.

Let the high praises of God be in their mouth,

And a two-edged sword in their hand,

To execute vengeance on the nations,

And punishments on the peoples;

To bind their kings with chains,

And their nobles with fetters of iron;

To execute on them the written judgment—

This honor have all His saints.

Praise the Lord!

Psalm 149:5-9

What are the effects of joy:

1. Joy gives us strength

2. Joy makes us light

3. Joy brings us victory and deliverance

Fruit of the Spirit, Joy, Kingdom of God

What is Joy?

According to the Webster’s dictionary, joy is a passion or emotion of gladness, exhilaration of spirits, delight.

According to Strong’s Concordance, joy means cheerfulness, i.e. calm delight- gladness, to rejoice, to be exceeding joyful, greatly, joyfulness joyous.

Joy is an emotion that goes beyond happiness, it is a calm assurance that keeps you in peace no matter what is happening around you. You may be going through a storm in your life but it will not move you because you will have a cheerfulness in your heart. Joy then is surely an emotion that we all need. Anything we focus on expands therefore it is my hope that as we study joy we will become more joyful.

What is Joy?

1) Joy is a fruit of the Holy Spirit:

But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.

Galatians 5:22-23

2) Joy is an oil that you can be anointed with:

To console those who mourn in Zion,

To give them beauty for ashes,

The oil of joy for mourning,

The garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness;

That they may be called trees of righteousness,

The planting of the Lord, that He may be glorified.”

Isaiah 61: 3

You love righteousness and hate wickedness;

Therefore God, Your God, has anointed You

With the oil of gladness more than Your companions.

Psalm 45:7

3) Joy is a characteristic of the Kingdom of God:

For the kingdom of God is not eating and drinking, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit.

Romans 14:17

So let us recap, joy is:

  • A fruit of the Spirit
  • Joy is an oil you can be anointed with
  • Joy is a characteristic of the Kingdom of God

The next session will look at the effects of joy.
