Why should we get wisdom?

Wisdom is the principal thing;

Therefore get wisdom.

And in all your getting, get understanding.

Proverbs 4:7

Our scripture above tells that wisdom is the principal thing therefore we should get wisdom and with all our getting we must get understanding. Why should we get wisdom?

1, Wisdom will promote you

Wisdom will promote you because it will help you to know what to say and how to behave in every situation you may find yourself in which will ultimately lead to your promotion. For example, Daniel was promoted because he had more wisdom than all the wise men of Babylon and as a result he was promoted to a place of honour:

Then the king promoted Daniel and gave him many generous gifts. He made him ruler over the entire province of Babylon and chief governor over all the wise men of Babylon.

Daniel 2:48 (HCSB)

2, Wisdom will bring you honour

Having wisdom brings you to a place of honour where you are highly esteemed because of the wisdom that you possess. For example, because of the wisdom that Joseph had in being able to interpret Pharaoh’s dreams, he too was promoted and brought to a place of great honour:

Then Pharaoh said to Joseph, “Since God has revealed the meaning of the dreams to you, clearly no one else is as intelligent or wise as you are. You will be in charge of my court, and all my people will take orders from you. Only I, sitting on my throne, will have a rank higher than yours.”

Genesis 41:39-40 (NLT)

3, Wisdom will give you grace and glory

When you are a person of wisdom, you are shown kindness and honour which others are not privileged to experience. This is because wisdom comes from God and when you fear Him, He will ensure that you are given divine grace and glory:

She will place on your head an ornament of grace;

A crown of glory she will deliver to you.”

Proverbs 4:9

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to get wisdom and with all my getting give me understanding in Jesus name, amen.

Do you want a blessed home?

The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,

But He blesses the home of the just.

Proverbs 3:33

The scripture above tells us that the curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked, but He blesses the home of the just. So if you want a blessed home, what must you do?

1, Live a righteous life

When you live a right life and are fair to others God promises to bless your home:

The curse of the Lord is on the house of the wicked,

But He blesses the home of the just.

Proverbs 3:33

2, Dwell in the secret place of the most high

If you want a blessed home you must continually dwell in the presence of God because He promises that no evil will come near your home:

Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge,

Even the Most High, your dwelling place,

No evil shall befall you,

Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling;

For He shall give His angels charge over you,

To keep you in all your ways.

Psalm 91:9-11

3, Pray and ask God to bless your home

We are told that a good home is built by the Lord therefore in your prayer time ask the Lord to build your house and bless it:

Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it: except the Lord keep the city, the watchman waketh but in vain.

Psalm 127:1 (KJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I pray that You will build my home and bless it in Jesus name, amen.

Do you wish to know the secrets of God?

For the perverse person is an abomination to the Lord,

But His secret counsel is with the upright.

Proverbs 3:32

Some people think that God is mysterious and they cannot really know Him, however the scripture above tells us that God does share His secret counsel with certain groups of people. For example, God made known His ways to Moses, His acts to the people of Israel (Psalm 103:7). So if you wish to know the secrets of the Lord, this is what you must do:

1, Be upright before God

To know the secrets of the Lord we must be upright before Him. To be upright is to have a right relationship with God and to live a right life before Him. We can have a right relationship with God through faith in Jesus Christ:

For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.

2 Corinthians 5:21 (NLT)

2, Fear God

To know the secrets of God we must fear and reverence Him because of Who He is and how awesome He is:

The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and He will shew them His covenant.

Psalm 25:14 (KJV)

3, Call on the Lord

To know the secrets of the Lord, we can call on the Lord and He promises to answer us:

‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’

Jeremiah 33:3

Prayer

Dear Lord, I am calling on You to show me great and mighty things which I do not know in Jesus name.

Do good to others when you can

Do good to others when you can

Do not withhold good from those who deserve it when it’s in your power to help them.

If you can help your neighbor now, don’t say, “Come back tomorrow, and then I’ll help you.”

Proverbs 3:27-28 (NLT)

The scriptures above tells us not to withhold good from those who deserve it when we have the power to help. Why is it important do good to others when you can?

  1. What you sow you will reap

It is a spiritual law that whatever you sow that is what you will reap. If you sow kindness in the lives of others, you will also reap kindness. Even if you don’t receive the reward in your life time, your children and grandchildren will reap the harvest:

Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.

Galatians 6:7 (KJV)

  1. When you help the poor you are lending to the Lord

When you help the poor who are not able to repay you, you are lending it to the Lord and in due season the Lord will pay you back:

If you help the poor, you are lending to the LORD–and He will repay you!

Proverbs 19:17 (NLT)

  1. When you bless others you are doing it unto the Lord

When we help those in need, we are not just doing it unto them but we are doing it unto our Lord Jesus Christ and He will reward us on the day of judgement:

Then the King will say to those on His right hand, ‘Come, you blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world: for I was hungry and you gave Me food; I was thirsty and you gave Me drink; I was a stranger and you took Me in; I was naked and you clothed Me; I was sick and you visited Me; I was in prison and you came to Me.’

Matthew 25:34-36

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to do good to others when it is in my power to, because I know I am doing it unto You in Jesus name.

What are the benefits of wisdom?

Wednesday 12th July 2017

Joyful is the person who finds wisdom, the one who gains understanding. For wisdom is more profitable than silver, and her wages are better than gold. Wisdom is more precious than rubies; nothing you desire can compare with her. She offers you long life in her right hand, and riches and honor in her left.

Proverbs 3:13-16

There are so many benefits to having wisdom and today we will explore some of these benefits:

1, Having wisdom makes you joyful

The scripture above tells us that joyful is the person who finds wisdom. This is indeed true because we are told that wisdom brightens a person’s face and softens’ its harsh appearance:

How wonderful to be wise, to analyze and interpret things. Wisdom lights up a person’s face, softening its harshness:

Ecclesiastes 8:1 (NLT)

2, Wisdom offers you a long life

We know that fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom and we are told that the fear of the Lord will prolong your days on earth:

The fear of the LORD prolongeth days: but the years of the wicked shall be shortened.

Proverbs 10:27 (KJV)

3, Wisdom offers you riches

The wisdom of God offers you riches because you will have God-given ideas that if you will implement can make you rich beyond your imagination. We all have thousands of ideas going through our minds each day and many of them are ideas from God about what He wants us to do to make us rich. The secret is to take one of those ideas that you know is from God, work on it and never give up until it becomes successful. When you are rich you will be able to bless the poor:

Wisdom can make you rich, but foolishness leads to more foolishness.

Proverbs 14:24 (CEV)

4, Wisdom offers you honor

When you are a person of wisdom, you will have honor and others will hold you in high esteem:

If you prize wisdom, she will make you great. Embrace her, and she will honor you

Proverbs 4:8 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to fear You because I know that the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.

God desires our best offering

Friday 7th July 2017

“Then Mary took a pound of very costly oil of spikenard, anointed the feet of Jesus, and wiped His feet with her hair. And the house was filled with the fragrance of the oil.”

John 12:3

Mary offered up an expensive sacrifice that was worth the equivalent of thousands of pounds today. She used expensive oil reserved for Kings on Jesus feet. Mary’s gift was costly and extravagant! What lessons can you learn from Mary today?

1, Give God more than crumbs

Mary of Bethany realized that nothing is too valuable to give Jesus. It is not about how much you give to Jesus, but how much it cost YOU to give it. God desires our best. He has promised to give us His best. When we give to Jesus, no matter how little or how big it may be, He will always give us back more than we could possibly imagine!

“Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”

Luke 6:38

2, God owns everything any way

Our God is the creator of the universe.  He never gets tired or weary. He is aware of our needs and is able to meet them all. Like Mary, we need to be willing to give our best even if it means we have to sacrifice. God owns it all anyway. Being generous to God permits Him to be generous to us (Proverbs 3:9-10).

Have you not known?
Have you not heard?
The everlasting God, the Lord,
The Creator of the ends of the earth,
Neither faints nor is weary.
His understanding is unsearchable.

Isaiah 40:28

Summary

Since God supplies our every need, it’s only correct that we are willing to offer to God our best. Mary was rebuked by those around her, especially by Judas for using such costly oil on Jesus feet, nonetheless she sacrificed her best for Jesus and has gone down in history for the generous provision she offered up. Jesus was well pleased with her sacrifice. We to like Mary can offer God our best sacrifice with the conduct in which we live our life and through the things we sacrifice to God.

God has called us to be successful

God has called us to be successful

Friday 30 June 2017

So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’  His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

Matthew 25:20-21

In the parable of the talents we are reminded of many life lessons, such as the importance of work ethic to God. We are also reminded that we are all capable of achieving different levels of success before God, provided we put in the correct work ethic. In Matthew 25:14-30, in the parable of talents we are reminded that God is a God of multiplication who expects us to bear fruit and multiply.

1, God expects us to work hard and multiply

God rewards hard work. He expects us to work hard and prosper. In the parable in verse 25:24-28, the servant who was given just one talent and only returned one talent is severely punished for not earning more money on the talent he was given. The men who increased the amount of money they earned on top of the talent they were given, are rewarded with compliments.

‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.  And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 25:29-30

Biblical success is working diligently in the here and now using all the talents God has given us to produce the return expected by the Master.

2, We work for the Master, not our own selfish purposes.

The master gave the servants talents and expected the three servants to all multiply them. Their role was to act as stewards over the master’s money and all the money made on top was to be given back to the master. God has entrusted us with money, wisdom, skills and creativity to look after the resources He has blessed us with. We are free to enjoy them and use them to bless others and ourselves, however they essentially belong to God. We should feel satisfaction and joy from doing our best with what God has given us in the place where his providence puts us, seeking to succeed in order to honour him.

Summary

We are to honour God with the skills and resources He has blessed us with. We are accountable to God for the way we live our lives. We must be willing to be bold and take initiative where necessary. God has given us wisdom, knowledge and understanding to be successful, to prosper and to multiply.

For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding

Proverbs 2:6
