Faith makes a way

His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

Matthew 25:21

The importance of faith if a key concept in the Bible. Faith is the currency on which the Word of God was founded. Faith is crucial in order to have a relationship with God and to acquire the success that God has promised in His word.

1,Faith is essential to  progress

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

In Hebrews 11:6, we are reminded by God in the Bible that without faith we cannot please God. When we can be faithful with a few things, God then can bless us with the opportunity to be blessed with much more. If we want to progress to the next level e.g financial independence and achieve our financial goals, we need to first handle our current situations and master it.

2, God is a God of multiplication, change and transformation

In order to be faithful over a few things and then go onto rule many things, we need God’s assistance. God promises in His word to make us more like Christ and to order our footsteps (Psalms 119:133).

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

God removes old things to make the way for new things. In Galatians 5:23, we read of the fruits of the Spirit.  God equates success with faithfulness, joy, long suffering, peace, kindness, goodness and self control. God allows us to be successful through transforming our character and not always our financial circumstances. He promises to do a new thing in our life.

Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.

Isaiah 43:18

Summary

In order to experience new things in our life we need to have faith and be expectant of change in line with Gods promises. We serve a God of multiplication, transformation and change who is more than able to assist us in mastering our current financial situation and circumstances. Once we do, He then promises to take us to more financial success.

What is the secret of obtaining favor with God and people Part 2

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

Proverbs 3:3-4 (NLT)

Last week, we learned that to obtain favor with God and people, we must be loyal, kind, respect God and believe in Jesus Christ. Today we will explore three more secrets to obtaining favor:

1. Be humble

Humility is having a deep sense of one’s (moral) littleness; modesty, and lowliness of mind. It is being aware that we are nothing without the grace of God upon our lives and therefore having total dependence on God. When we humble ourselves we will obtain favor from God:

Toward the scorners He is scornful, but to the humble He gives favor.

Proverbs 3:34 (ESV) 

2. Seek God’s favor

God says we will find Him when we seek Him with all of our heart. Therefore as we develop a relationship with Him, we can, like the Psalmist ask God to shower us with His favor:

Remember me, O Lord, when You show favor to Your people; help me when You save them

Psalm 106: 4 (ESV)

3. Seek God’s Kingdom first

When we put God first in everything we do, and seek for the establishment of His kingdom here on earth, He gives us other things that we did not ask for including favor:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please remember me when You show favor to Your people; help me when You save them in Jesus name.

What is the secret to obtaining favor with God and people?

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.

Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

Proverbs 3:3-4 (NLT)

In life we see that there are some people who enjoy more favor than others. They get more preferential treatment wherever they go. They have what we may call favor operating in their lives. What is the secret to obtaining favor with God and people? We will explore some of the secrets below:

1. Be Loyal

If you and I want to have favor operating in our lives, we need to be loyal as stated in Proverbs above. To be loyal is to be trustworthy and faithful, someone who others can depend on:

 He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him

Proverbs 2:8 (NLT)

2. Be Kind

When we are kind we obtain favor from God and from people. Kindness can open doors that you never thought imaginable. Therefore let us be kind one to another:

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:32 (NLT)

3. Fear God

The Lord showers His favor on those who fear and reverence Him therefore let us have an attitude of reverence and respect for God if we want to obtain His favor in our lives:

The Lord favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

Psalm 147:11 (NASB)

4. Believe in Jesus Christ

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, His blood washes away our sins and we become righteous and obtain a right relationship with God. He promises to favor the righteous:

For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 5:12 (KJV)

Dear Lord, thank You for blessing me. Please surround me with Your favor like a shield in Jesus name.

You can’t out give God

And everyone who has left houses or brothers or sisters or father or mother or wife or children or lands, for My name’s sake, shall receive a hundredfold, and inherit eternal life.

Matthew 19:29

1, Give to God and you will have more

In order to receive you have to be willing to give. God promise us in Matthew 19:29 that He is the supreme provider whether we acknowledge Him or not. Everything belongs to God whether we accept it or not. God promises that when we are willing to surrender everything to Him, including our family and possessions e.g land, He will acknowledge this and blesses us with more. He promises us eternal life and material blessings in return for us making ourselves completely available to Him.

But this I say: He who sows sparingly will also reap sparingly, and he who sows bountifully will also reap bountifully. So let each one give as he purposes in his heart, not grudgingly or of necessity; for God loves a cheerful giver.

2 Corinthians 9:6-8

2, God provides for all our needs

God knows our needs from our wants. He knows we need friends and family however God also reminds us that at times we may need to leave friends and family for His sake. In doing so God promises to bless us 100 fold and give us eternal life. God will compensate us for the lack.

Consider the ravens, for they neither sow nor reap, which have neither storehouse nor barn; and God feeds them. Of how much more value are you than the birds?

Luke 12:24 

Summary

It is worth putting God before all our wants and needs since He is more than able to supply all of our needs. When we truly surrender to God and place Him first, God promises to bless us abundantly and make provision for us to occupy an eternal place in His Kingdom. There is certainly no loss when we put God’s need first since He promises to bless us for doing so.

Why should we build our treasure in heaven

Thursday 24^th April 2017

Jesus said to him, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell what you have and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me.”

Matthew 19:21

In the passage of Matthew 19:21 we are introduced to a rich successful young man who asks Jesus what he needs to do to inherit everlasting life. He is advised by Jesus that he needs to sell all that he has and give it to the poor. He is told that he will then secure his treasure in heaven. We can learn many things from this passage in relation to wealth.

1, God’s kingdom is more important than wealth

In order to serve God we do not need to be poor. This rich young man was told to sell all that he had because wealth to him was extremely important. God cautions in His word that He is the father of every good gift, however in order to truly succeed and follow Jesus, we need to put the kingdom of God first in our life. When we do, all the blessings from doing so will flow into our life. The young rich man put his wealth first and the kingdom of God second, hence Jesus’ bold response to the young man to give away all his possessions to the poor.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

2, When we serve God He will fulfil all our immediate desires

When we follow God and put Him first we acquire treasure in heaven. God is the supplier of every good gift (James 1:17). God’s desire is to not withhold any good thing from us. God has a purpose for our life and provided we submit to Him and put God first, He will allow us to fulfil our God given purpose.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

Summary

We should build our treasure in heaven by first seeking the kingdom of God, since in putting God first before all our goals and desires, God will allow us to secure eternal life in heaven. When we live righteously before God we will also be qualified to receive through faith, the promises God has made for us in His word such as God’s promise to supply all our needs.

And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

Philippians 4:19

God desires to give good gifts, we must only ask

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Matthew 7:11 

1, God is alive and active

God is alive and active and desires to give fine things to those who ask. We serve a mighty God that desires only good for our life, including meeting all our financial needs.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11 

The key thing we must remember is that we must ask. Provided we ask in line with God’s will, God will grant us His promise to give good things to us. 

2, God desires to give us good gifts beyond what any man could give us

God reminded us in (Matthew 7:11), that if man being evil at times can give good gifts then provided we ask, He can grant us much more. We are reminded that God operates from heaven. God is loaded with sovereign power and abundance. It is God’s will that we ask and expect to receive financial provision by faith, for when we do, God supplies all our financial needs (James 1:6).

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8 

3, Faith is required in order to receive from God

We are told in the word of God the bible that God is the provider of every good gift (James 1:17). The key issue is that we must ask God to meet our need with faith. Provided we ask in line with God’s will, and with faith, God will meet our financial need. God warns us that it is faith that allows Him to meet our needs.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

Summary

God desires only good for us and supplies us with faith as a gift, as seen in (Ephesians 2:8-9) to receive all that God has promised us. We are all by God’s grace, given the faith required to get what we know we need financially, provided we are righteous before God and ask with faith, in line with His will. The measure of faith we need is small, as small as a mustard seed. All we need is a mustard seed of faith in order to receive what God has promised (Matthew 17:20).

Why we must honour our parents

Why must we honour our parents?

My child, listen when your father corrects you.

Don’t neglect your mother’s instruction.

Proverbs 1:8 (NLT)

Wisdom is telling us in today’s text to listen to our Father when he corrects us, and to our mother when she instructs us. We must remember that parents here is not only referring to our natural parents, it also refers to our spiritual parents in the Lord.

Why does God tell us to honour our parents both in the Old and New Testament?

1, Honouring our parents pleases the Lord

Firstly when we honour our parents, it brings honour to God and it pleases Him.

Children, obey your parents in all things, for this is well pleasing to the Lord.

Colossians 3:20 (NKJV)

2. Honouring our parents prolongs our lives

The second reason why we must honour parents is so that we will have a long life here on earth:

“Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long upon the land which the Lord your God is giving you.

Exodus 20:12 (NKJV)

3. Honouring our parents brings blessings

The third reason is that when we honour our parents it will go well with us:

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother; which is the first commandment with promise; That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth.

Ephesians 6:1-3 (KJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to honour my parents in the Lord so that it will go well with me and I will live long on the earth to fulfil my purpose in life in Jesus name.

Why should we meditate on the Word of God?

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8)

Just like Joshua, God has a promise land that He has placed before all of us to possess, however before we can go in and possess the land and have good success, there are certain principles that God wants us to follow:

What does God want us to do?

1. Keep the Word of the Lord in your mouth

This means that we must speak the Word of God whether circumstances are favourable or not. For example when we are weak the Lord wants us to declare that we are strong (Joel 3:10). This doesn’t deny the fact that we are feeling weak, but we are declaring the outcome that The Lord will make us strong. Speaking the Word of God is important because that is how our faith will increase:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17)

2. Meditate on the Word of God day and night

According to Strong’s Concordance, to meditate is to “moan, growl, utter, speak and muse”. In other words when you meditate you ponder on and then declare the Word of God. You don’t just do it in the morning but also in the night. When you do this the Bible tells us that you are blessed:

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night (Psalms 1:1-2)

3. Observe and do according to what is written in the Word

To observe means you pay a close attention to what the Word is saying and then you do it:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (James 1:22)

Why should we meditate on The Word of God?

1. You shall make your way prosperous

To be prosperous in all your ways refers to well-being, having favour with God and man and being wealthy. It means that when you ponder on and declare the Word of God you will flourish in your spirit, soul, body as well as in your finances, and God take pleasure in making His servants prosperous:

Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant” (Psalm 35:27)

2. You shall have good success

Success is achieving all of what God has ordained for you with excellence. Successful people have wisdom and understanding, and are skilful in what they do. Success comes when we obey the commandments of God:

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man (Proverbs 3:1-4 ESV)
