Why is it important to have Mentors?
Where there is no counsel, the people fall; But in the multitude of counselors there is safety.
Proverbs 11:14
We are told above that there is safety in having a multitude of counsellors. Counsellors are mentors who give you good advice. Why is it important to have mentors?
- Mentors have more experience
Mentors are usually people with experience in your chosen field and they have often gone on the journey you are about to embark on therefore its good to learn from their experience. Timothy had a mentor who was Paul. Who is your mentor?
I am writing to Timothy, my true son in the faith. May God the Father and Christ Jesus our Lord give you grace, mercy, and peace.

- Mentors can guide you
Because the mentor has experience, they are better able to guide you on which path you should take. For example, Apollos was an eloquent speaker who knew the scriptures well, however he only knew about John’s baptism. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him they decided to mentor him about the ways of the Lord:
Meanwhile, a Jew named Apollos, an eloquent speaker who knew the Scriptures well, had arrived in Ephesus from Alexandria in Egypt. He had been taught the way of the Lord, and he taught others about Jesus with an enthusiastic spirit and with accuracy. However, he knew only about John’s baptism. When Priscilla and Aquila heard him preaching boldly in the synagogue, they took him aside and explained the way of God even more accurately.

- Mentors will help you not to repeat the same mistakes
The beauty of mentors is that they are able to share their mistakes so that you do not need to repeat them. Characters in the Bible can be our greatest mentors. Because in reading the Bible, we have examples of many men and women who did heroic things but who also failed, and based on our knowledge of their failure, we too, can avoid the same mistakes:
These things happened to them as examples for us. They were written down to warn us who live at the end of the age.

Dear Lord, please help me to surround myself with good mentors so that I can make Godly decisions in Jesus name, amen!
