Harvest a good group

But other seed fell on good ground and yielded a crop that sprang up, increased and produced: some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some a hundred.”

Mark 4:8

In order that a good harvest be yielded, certain conditions are essential. Sunlight, water as well fertile soil is required. The season for harvesting a crop needs to be correct, so the crop will grow.  When ideal conditions are met as predetermined by God ‘s creative hand, an abundant harvest is possible. In order to bear a fruitful financial harvest in our life, we will explore some crucial things God tells us for His blessing.

1, Acknowledge God

To harvest abundance in our lives, including financial abundance, it’s important to first and foremost acknowledge God. All good things come from God (James 1:17). If we invest in God and get to know Him and do as He tells us, we will reap accordingly.

Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Galatians 6:7-8

2, Faith is fundamental

In order to grow in our relationship with God, we need to have faith. God rewards faith. Without faith, it is impossible to please God. Faith is so important to God, that He reassures us that we all have a measure of faith (Romans 12:3).

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

3, God rewards us according to the cleanliness of our hands

God rewards those that listen to His word. Obedience is important from the book of Genesis to Revelation. We are called to live a life of obedience (Genesis 22:18). The word advises us that God rewards us according to the cleanliness of our hands. As such, it is important that we are obedient to God since obedience is a form of worship to God (Romans 12:1).

The Lord has rewarded me according to my righteousness,
according to the cleanness of my hands in his sight.

Psalm 18:24

Summary

When we acknowledge God and walk in faith and obedience, God has no reason not to be faithful to His word.  God promises us to give us the desires of heart. When we please God and put Him first by honouring what He tells us to do in His word, God promises to reward us according to the cleanliness of our hands and according to the promises in His word.

God has called us to be successful

God has called us to be successful

Friday 30 June 2017

So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’  His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

Matthew 25:20-21

In the parable of the talents we are reminded of many life lessons, such as the importance of work ethic to God. We are also reminded that we are all capable of achieving different levels of success before God, provided we put in the correct work ethic. In Matthew 25:14-30, in the parable of talents we are reminded that God is a God of multiplication who expects us to bear fruit and multiply.

1, God expects us to work hard and multiply

God rewards hard work. He expects us to work hard and prosper. In the parable in verse 25:24-28, the servant who was given just one talent and only returned one talent is severely punished for not earning more money on the talent he was given. The men who increased the amount of money they earned on top of the talent they were given, are rewarded with compliments.

‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.  And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 25:29-30

Biblical success is working diligently in the here and now using all the talents God has given us to produce the return expected by the Master.

2, We work for the Master, not our own selfish purposes.

The master gave the servants talents and expected the three servants to all multiply them. Their role was to act as stewards over the master’s money and all the money made on top was to be given back to the master. God has entrusted us with money, wisdom, skills and creativity to look after the resources He has blessed us with. We are free to enjoy them and use them to bless others and ourselves, however they essentially belong to God. We should feel satisfaction and joy from doing our best with what God has given us in the place where his providence puts us, seeking to succeed in order to honour him.

Summary

We are to honour God with the skills and resources He has blessed us with. We are accountable to God for the way we live our lives. We must be willing to be bold and take initiative where necessary. God has given us wisdom, knowledge and understanding to be successful, to prosper and to multiply.

For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding

Why you should honor the Lord

Wednesday 14 June 2017

Why should you honor the Lord with your wealth?

Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first part of your harvest. Then your barns will be full of grain, and your barrels will be overflowing with wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10 (ERV)

We are being encouraged in this scripture to honor the Lord with our wealth and the first part of our increase. When we do, the Bible tells us that we will reap the following benefits:

1. Your barns will be full of grain

Your barns refers to your storehouse, the places where you keep the proceeds of your harvest or earnings. This could refer to your finances, your business, your ministry, anything that you lay your hands to, God has promised to bless it:

The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you.

Deuteronomy 28:8 (NIV)

2. Your barrels will overflow with wine

Barrels overflowing with wine gives us a picture of abundance and joy that comes when we receive the Holy Spirit into our lives. When we honor God He blesses us with so much more so that we can be more of a blessing to others:

The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.

Joel 2:24 (NKJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I choose to honor You with my wealth and the first part of my earnings. I know that as I do You will bless me with abundance and joy in Jesus name.

Why it is so important to be kind?

Wednesday 3 May 2017

Why is it important to be kind?

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you!

Tie them around your neck as a reminder.

Write them deep within your heart.

Proverbs 3:3 (NLT)

There are two virtues that we told in Proverbs 3:3 that should never leave us, loyalty and kindness. Today we want to examine why it is so important to be kind.

1, When you sow kindness you will reap kindness

The Bible tells us that we will always reap what we sow (Galatians 6:7). Therefore when you sow kindness you too will reap kindness:

Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

Ephesians 4:32 (ESV)

2, Kindness is an act of love

When you are kind, it shows that you are obeying the first commandment of the Lord which is to love the Lord our God and to love our neighbor as ourselves:

Jesus replied, “‘You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. A second is equally important: ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’

Matthew 22:37-39 (NLT)

3, Kindness is a fruit of the Spirit

Kindness is one of the fruit of the Spirit that we as believers should produce in our lives:

But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!

Galatians 5:22-23 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to be kind. Help me to help other people who are in need and sow acts of kindness in other people’s lives in Jesus name.

God desires for us to be fruitful

Thursday 23rd March 2017

But he who received seed on the good ground is he who hears the word and understands it, who indeed bears fruit and produces: some a hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty.

Matthew 13:23

God’s desire is that we bear fruit on a daily basis. In order to bear fruit we must provide the best foundations for ourselves. If the ground is not good then we cannot expect to bear fruit in great numbers, as the scripture above mentions. God desires us to bear fruit not just spiritually but also in our health, emotions and finances. Its God’s desire we flourish in all areas (3 John 1:2). So how do we hear the word, understand it and then bear good fruit?

1, We must keep our heart pure

The scriptures warn us that in order to bear an abundance of good fruit we need to have a pure heart and be patient.

But the ones that fell on the good ground are those who, having heard the word with a noble and good heart, keep it and bear fruit with patience.

Luke 8:15

We need to make sure we are in right standing with God and avoid the things God advises us to not entertain such as immorality, idolatry and anger (Galatians 5:19-21).

2, Sew in the spirit and not in the flesh

In order to sew on good ground and reap an abundance of fruit we need to sew in the spirit and not in the flesh. The Bible warns us that the things of the flesh reap corruption, whereas the things of the Spirit are where everlasting life resides.

For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life.

Galatians 6:8

3, Relying upon God’s strength and not our own.

In order to be successful in bearing an abundance of fruit, including financial gain we need to rely upon God’s strength and not our own.  We need to pray and the Holy Spirit will give us the strength and wisdom to do God’s will according to His desire and not our own. Outside of Gods strength we rely upon the flesh and we will ultimately fail.

For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding; 10 that you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God.

1 Colossians 9:10

Summary

In summary we can bear fruit in the Lord provided we keep our hearts pure. We need to have right standing before God and resist the desire to sin. When we do sin we can repent for our God is ever merciful (Psalm 103:10). We need to walk in the Spirit and not in the flesh and do this in God’s strength and wisdom and not our own. When we have right standing with God, God’s answers to our prayers are yes and amen (2nd Corinthians 1:20). We can then expect to bear fruit, including fruits for our finances.

We must bind the strong man over our finances and take back our goods

Or how can one enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house.

Matthew 12:29

This scripture asks us how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and carry off his possessions unless he first ties up the strong man? Once the strong man is bound then we can plunder his house. In this case once we bind Satan the strong man we can take authority and plunder his influence over us. When Satan no longer has influence over us we can expect to prosper in all areas of our life including the area of financial stability.

1, Bind the strong man

The “strong man” is Satan who possesses, or works in human beings by means of his wicked spirits. Satan is as clearly a person as the Lord Jesus Christ is a Person! The Lord Jesus Christ dwells in those He redeems by His Spirit, Who imparts to them the very life of the Son of God, thus making them children of God. In the same way the prince of darkness has influence over the fallen race of Adam. Until we know how to take heed to the Lord’s warning and “FIRST bind the strong man,” the attempts we make to “spoil his goods” will only enrage him, and enable him to strengthen his armour, and guard his palace in peace. The strong man must be bound with authority in the name of Jesus.

2, Take authority over the strong man and demand what’s rightfully yours

In the authority we have in the name of Jesus we can tear down the strong man and bind his power from working in our life.

Behold, I give you the authority to trample on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy, and nothing shall by any means hurt you.

Luke 10:19

We have the authority in the name of Jesus to have dominion over all the power of the enemy and take back what belongs to us. God promises us abundance. It’s God will that we live in authority, in accordance with God’s will for our life, and to live in financial abundance as a by product of that authority. John 10:10.

3, Walk in your authority over the strongman

Once we take authority over the strong man/enemy, in the name of Jesus, we can begin to live a life of abundance and expect to be blessed in all areas of our life. The bible reminds us that God gives us wisdom to acquire wealth.

And you shall remember the Lord your God, for it is He who gives you power to get wealth, that He may establish His covenant which He swore to your fathers, as it is this day.

Deuteronomy 8:18

Summary

God wants us to take authority over the enemy and then to plunder his house. We can only plunder the house of the enemy once we have bound the enemy. Once the enemy is bound we can expect to live in the promises of God and to live life’s of abundance. It is God’s will for us to proper in all areas of our life, including the financial arena. (Psalm 92:12

Where Does Wisdom Come From?

Wednesday 8 March 2017

For the Lord gives wisdom; From His mouth come knowledge and understanding;

Proverbs 2:6

People may look in all sorts of places for wisdom however this verse tells us that wisdom comes from God. Therefore if you believe in God and have a relationship with Him through Jesus Christ, then you can take the following steps if you need wisdom:

  1. Pray and ask

We are told that if we need wisdom, we should ask our generous God and He will give it to us:

If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking.

James 1:5 (NLT)

  1. We must ask God in faith

When we ask God for wisdom, we must ask in faith believing that He will answer us:

But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone. Do not waver, for a person with divided loyalty is as unsettled as a wave of the sea that is blown and tossed by the wind.

James 1:6 (NLT)

  1. We must learn to listen to the Voice of God

God still speaks however we must be still to hear Him speak. When we have prayed and asked God in faith for wisdom, believing Him to answer us, we must quieten our spirits and wait patiently for Him to answer:

Be still, and know that I am God: I will be exalted among the heathen, I will be exalted in the earth.

Psalm 46:10

Prayer

Dear Lord, I thank You that wisdom comes from You. Please give me wisdom in every area of my life in Jesus name, amen.

God desires to give good gifts, we must only ask

If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!

Matthew 7:11

1, God is alive and active

God is alive and active and desires to give fine things to those who ask. We serve a mighty God that desires only good for our life, including meeting all our financial needs.

For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the Lord, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Jeremiah 29:11

The key thing we must remember is that we must ask. Provided we ask in line with God’s will, God will grant us His promise to give good things to us.

2, God desires to give us good gifts beyond what any man could give us

God reminded us in (Matthew 7:11), that if man being evil at times can give good gifts then provided we ask, He can grant us much more. We are reminded that God operates from heaven. God is loaded with sovereign power and abundance. It is God’s will that we ask and expect to receive financial provision by faith, for when we do, God supplies all our financial needs (James 1:6).

Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Matthew 7:7-8

3, Faith is required in order to receive from God

We are told in the word of God the bible that God is the provider of every good gift (James 1:17). The key issue is that we must ask God to meet our need with faith. Provided we ask in line with God’s will, and with faith, God will meet our financial need. God warns us that it is faith that allows Him to meet our needs.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

Summary

God desires only good for us and supplies us with faith as a gift, as seen in (Ephesians 2:8-9) to receive all that God has promised us. We are all by God’s grace, given the faith required to get what we know we need financially, provided we are righteous before God and ask with faith, in line with His will. The measure of faith we need is small, as small as a mustard seed. All we need is a mustard seed of faith in order to receive what God has promised (Matthew 17:20).

Be careful where you store your treasures

Be careful where you store your treasures

Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust destroy and where thieves break in and steal;  but lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust destroys and where thieves do not break in and steal. For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.

Matthew 6: 19-21

The Bible is a useful resource for counselling on matters pertaining to money. The Bible reveals to us that it’s God will for us to have money. We are counselled however to have an appropriate relationship with money. The scripture in Matthew 6:19-21 cautions us to be careful of where we store our treasures.

1, God wants us to be kingdom minded first

God wants us to be kingdom minded first. In Matthew God warns us to seek first the kingdom of God and all these things will be added to you.

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Matthew 6:33

God’s desire is that we inherit the kingdom of God first. He reminds us that once we seek God’s kingdom, God will then go on to meet all our other needs including our financial needs.

2, Don’t make money an idol

God’s word the Bible reminds us that we are blessed when we have money. God’s desire is that we live a life of abundance. John 10:10. God’s caution with money is to not put money above and beyond our relationship with Him.

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil, for which some have strayed from the faith in their greediness, and pierced themselves through with many sorrows.

1 Timothy 6:10

God cautions us to have a responsible relationship with our possessions including money. His ultimate goal is for us to live a life of abundance by first seeking for his kingdom and righteousness from which all further blessings will come.

3, God’s treasure is blessed and beyond destruction

God warns us in Matthew 6: 19-21 that by seeking the treasures of heaven over and above the treasures of earth, that we will inevitably make it clear to God what our priority is. God’s desire is that we put God and His kingdom above everything else. He wants to remain the main focus of our worship and life.

Summary

In Summary God wants us to put Him in first and in doing so he will provide for all our needs including financial needs.

How do you overcome focusing on things that are natural and not spiritual?

For the past six weeks we have been looking at the meaning behind the names of the seven nations that the Children of Israel were commanded to destroy before they could enter into the Promised Land:

And Joshua said, “By this you shall know that the living God is among you, and that He will without fail drive out from before you the Canaanites and the Hittites and the Hivites and the Perizzites and the Girgashites and the Amorites and the Jebusites:

Joshua 3:10 (NKJV)

These seven nations though they were physical nations now represents seven types of evil spirits that we as believers in Jesus Christ must totally destroy and overcome before we can enter into our spiritual inheritance. In order for us to enter into our spiritual inheritance we must overcome fear, pride, carnality, small thinking, living for earthly pleasures, and rejection.

Today, in our final overcoming series we are going to look at how to overcome the spirits that entice us to focus on the things that can be seen and ignoring the things that cannot be seen.

“Girgashite” means, “clay dweller”, which refers to “dwelling on earthliness”. This type of spirit promotes a focus on earthly, temporal things, and produces a dislike for things that are “spiritual” and eternal. Girgashites or people infected with this type of spirit tend to focus on things that are visible. Whereas the Bible tells us to focus on things that are not seen:

While we do not look at the things which are seen, but at the things which are not seen. For the things which are seen are temporary, but the things which are not seen are eternal.

2 Corinthians 4:18

How do you overcome focusing on things that are natural and not spiritual?

  1. Be born again

When Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews came by night to speak with Jesus, Jesus told him that unless one is born again, he cannot see the Kingdom of God. Nicodemus being puzzled, asked Jesus how a grown up man can be born again. Jesus replied and said that you must be born of water and the Spirit (John 3:1-5). In other words, you must accept Jesus Christ as your Saviour. When you believe in Jesus you are sealed with His Holy Spirit (Ephesians 1:13). To be born of water is to go through water baptism which Jesus instructed His disciples to do (Matthew 28:19). When you are born again then, your spiritual senses come alive and you are able to discern things in the spiritual realm which cannot be seen with the naked human eye;

  1. Ask The Lord to open your spiritual eyes so that you can see

We must pray like the Psalmist prayed and ask The Lord to open our spiritual eyes so that we can see wonderful things from His law (Psalm 119:18). You see, as you have natural eyes so you have spiritual eyes so if you are spiritually blind you need to cry out and ask The Lord to open your eyes so that you can see the things that He wants to show you;

  1. Ask The Lord to open your spiritual ears so you may hear

Jesus in His letters to the Seven Churches in Revelation ended his letters by saying “He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches.” In other words, we all have spiritual ears that must come alive if we are to hear things from the Spirit of God. Again if you find that you are spiritually deaf and cannot hear the voice of God, cry out and ask The Lord to awaken your ears so that you can hear as the learned (Isaiah 50:4);

  1. Ask The Lord to give you His Spirit of wisdom and revelation

We must pray like Paul did that God will give us His Spirit of wisdom and revelation, Who will let us know truths about God and help us understand them, so that we will know Him better. It is the same Spirit who will open our minds to see His truth so that we will know the hope that He has chosen us to have (Ephesians 1:17-19);

  1. Fasting

Fasting is a discipline that sharpens our spiritual senses so that we can tap into the divine power of God. Jesus expected His disciples to fast and He said that “It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” (Matthew 4:4). When we abstain from food and feed on nothing but the Word of God, the Word nourishes, fuels and strengthens our spirits. In so doing we tend to focus less on the natural things that are visible and look at the eternal things that are invisible.

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to focus on the things that are eternal that cannot be seen and let me take my eyes off the things that are natural and temporary in Jesus name, amen.
