God has called us to be successful

God has called us to be successful

Friday 30 June 2017

So he who had received five talents came and brought five other talents, saying, ‘Lord, you delivered to me five talents; look, I have gained five more talents besides them.’  His lord said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.

Matthew 25:20-21

In the parable of the talents we are reminded of many life lessons, such as the importance of work ethic to God. We are also reminded that we are all capable of achieving different levels of success before God, provided we put in the correct work ethic. In Matthew 25:14-30, in the parable of talents we are reminded that God is a God of multiplication who expects us to bear fruit and multiply.

1, God expects us to work hard and multiply

God rewards hard work. He expects us to work hard and prosper. In the parable in verse 25:24-28, the servant who was given just one talent and only returned one talent is severely punished for not earning more money on the talent he was given. The men who increased the amount of money they earned on top of the talent they were given, are rewarded with compliments.

‘For to everyone who has, more will be given, and he will have abundance; but from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away.  And cast the unprofitable servant into the outer darkness. There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

Matthew 25:29-30

Biblical success is working diligently in the here and now using all the talents God has given us to produce the return expected by the Master.

2, We work for the Master, not our own selfish purposes.

The master gave the servants talents and expected the three servants to all multiply them. Their role was to act as stewards over the master’s money and all the money made on top was to be given back to the master. God has entrusted us with money, wisdom, skills and creativity to look after the resources He has blessed us with. We are free to enjoy them and use them to bless others and ourselves, however they essentially belong to God. We should feel satisfaction and joy from doing our best with what God has given us in the place where his providence puts us, seeking to succeed in order to honour him.

Summary

We are to honour God with the skills and resources He has blessed us with. We are accountable to God for the way we live our lives. We must be willing to be bold and take initiative where necessary. God has given us wisdom, knowledge and understanding to be successful, to prosper and to multiply.

For the Lord gives wisdom;
From His mouth come knowledge and understanding

Proverbs 2:6

Faith makes a way

Thursday 22 June 2017

His lord said to him, “Well done, good and faithful servant; you were faithful over a few things, I will make you ruler over many things. Enter into the joy of your lord.”

Matthew 25:21

The importance of faith if a key concept in the Bible. Faith is the currency on which the Word of God was founded. Faith is crucial in order to have a relationship with God and to acquire the success that God has promised in His word.

1,Faith is essential to  progress

“And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.”

In Hebrews 11:6, we are reminded by God in the Bible that without faith we cannot please God. When we can be faithful with a few things, God then can bless us with the opportunity to be blessed with much more. If we want to progress to the next level e.g financial independence and achieve our financial goals, we need to first handle our current situations and master it.

2, God is a God of multiplication, change and transformation

In order to be faithful over a few things and then go onto rule many things, we need God’s assistance. God promises in His word to make us more like Christ and to order our footsteps (Psalms 119:133).

Therefore if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creature; the old things passed away; behold, new things have come.

2 Corinthians 5:17

God removes old things to make the way for new things. In Galatians 5:23, we read of the fruits of the Spirit.  God equates success with faithfulness, joy, long suffering, peace, kindness, goodness and self control. God allows us to be successful through transforming our character and not always our financial circumstances. He promises to do a new thing in our life.

Do not remember the former things,
Nor consider the things of old.

Isaiah 43:18

Summary

In order to experience new things in our life we need to have faith and be expectant of change in line with Gods promises. We serve a God of multiplication, transformation and change who is more than able to assist us in mastering our current financial situation and circumstances. Once we do, He then promises to take us to more financial success.

Why should you accept the Lord’s discipline?

Wednesday 21 June 2017

My child, don’t reject the Lord’s discipline, and don’t be upset when he corrects you.

For the Lord corrects those he loves, just as a father corrects a child in whom He delights.

Proverbs 3:11-12 (NLT)

Being disciplined is not a pleasant experience however we are being encouraged not to be upset when we experience it. Why is it important to accept discipline?

1, The Lord disciplines those He loves

Just as a natural father correct a child that he loves, God also corrects us because He loves us. If we accept God as our Father then we must accept the discipline that the Father gives to His children:

And have you forgotten the encouraging words God spoke to you as His children? He said, “My child, don’t make light of the Lord’s discipline, and don’t give up when He corrects you. For the Lord disciplines those He loves, and He punishes each one He accepts as His child.”

Hebrews 12:5-6 (NLT)

2, Discipline helps you to stay on the right track

The Lord’s discipline helps us to stay on the right track, which is why David said it was good for him to be afflicted. Affliction helps us to come back to the Lord and to obey the word of the Lord:

It was good for me to be afflicted so that I might learn your decrees.

Psalm 119:71 (NIV)

3, Discipline produces a fruit of righteousness in our lives

In the moment when we are being disciplined it seems painful, but later it helps us to live right in the sight of God:

No discipline is enjoyable while it is happening–it’s painful! But afterward there will be a peaceful harvest of right living for those who are trained in this way.

Hebrews 12:11 (NLT)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please help me to accept Your discipline knowing that You correct those you love in Jesus name.

Obedience is better then sacrifice

Thursday 15th June 2017

“Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you pay tithe of mint and anise and cumin, and have neglected the weightier matters of the law: justice and mercy and faith. These you ought to have done, without leaving the others undone.”

Matthew 23:23

God advises us in His Word that obedience is better than sacrifice. At times people are willing to sacrifice to God e.g money through tithing or giving an offering, however God’s word reminds us that our sacrifice in terms of tithing etc is pleasing to God when we are obedient to Him, and put His commandments first.

1, God values obedience over sacrifice

Jesus rebukes the Pharisees and Scribes through paying token acknowledgement to God in Matthew 23:23. When we follow God’s teaching, we realise that He is most pleased when we put qualities such as obedience, justice, mercy and faith before financial sacrifice. God constantly reminds us throughout the Bible that obedience is better than sacrifice.

“Has the Lord as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices,
As in obeying the voice of the Lord?
Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice,
And to heed than the fat of rams.”

1 Samuel 15:22

2, God is a God or order and principle

God puts His Word higher than His name. That means God values and honors His Word. We need to honor His Word and be obedient to it. As such, we must put Gods Word above any desire for financial gain or above any financial sacrifice we make to God.

I will worship toward Your holy temple,
And praise Your name
For Your loving kindness and Your truth;
For You have magnified Your word above all Your name.

                    Psalm 138:2

God’s Word is His communication, His promise, the revelation of Himself to His people. It is to be a lamp to our feet in a dark and fallen world, without it we would have no way to know God or how to do God’s will.

Summary

In pursuing our life and career, we must be willing to put obedience to God’s Word above any offering we make to God e.g tithes etc. God is faithful to His Word. When we are obedient and provided we have faith, God will answer our prayers.

Why you should honor the Lord

Wednesday 14 June 2017

Why should you honor the Lord with your wealth?

Honor the Lord with your wealth and the first part of your harvest. Then your barns will be full of grain, and your barrels will be overflowing with wine.

Proverbs 3:9-10 (ERV)

We are being encouraged in this scripture to honor the Lord with our wealth and the first part of our increase. When we do, the Bible tells us that we will reap the following benefits:

1. Your barns will be full of grain

Your barns refers to your storehouse, the places where you keep the proceeds of your harvest or earnings. This could refer to your finances, your business, your ministry, anything that you lay your hands to, God has promised to bless it:

The Lord will send a blessing on your barns and on everything you put your hand to. The Lord your God will bless you in the land He is giving you.

Deuteronomy 28:8 (NIV)

2. Your barrels will overflow with wine

Barrels overflowing with wine gives us a picture of abundance and joy that comes when we receive the Holy Spirit into our lives. When we honor God He blesses us with so much more so that we can be more of a blessing to others:

The threshing floors shall be full of wheat, And the vats shall overflow with new wine and oil.

Joel 2:24 (NKJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, I choose to honor You with my wealth and the first part of my earnings. I know that as I do You will bless me with abundance and joy in Jesus name.

If you have faith, you can have what you say

Thursday 7th June 2017

And whatever things you ask in prayer, believing, you will receive.

Matthew 21:22

The Bible is full of God’s faithful promises that He says he will fulfill in our lives. The Bible makes wonderful promises from God to us, from the promise of protection, to the promise of His love for us and His ability to restore broken lives.  Another of God’s promises is that if we have faith in our prayers and believe we will have what we ask for, God will hear our requests and answer us.

1, God’s currency is faith

In the physical realm we require money as a currency to survive in order to acquire shelter, food, clothing and entertainment. In the spiritual realm, God requires faith. God’s word says without faith we cannot please God.

But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.

Hebrews 11:6

With faith we can receive all that God has promised us. In order to receive, God’s word tells us we only need the faith of a mustard seed.

2, We only need the faith of a mustard seed

God only requires a mustard seed of faith to activate his power. We can pray to receive faith. The more we read and meditate on the word of God in the Bible, the more our faith will grow.

So the Lord said, “If you have faith as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be pulled up by the roots and be planted in the sea,’ and it would obey you.

Luke 17:6

Man’s faith activates God’s power. In Mark 5:25-34, we are told the story of the woman with an issue of blood for 12 years. She had persisted with doctors and no one could heal the persistent blood flow. The Bible says it was the woman’s faith that healed her. Without faith, the healing she encountered would have never taken place.

Summary

With faith all things are possible. We can pray to God to help us faith. The more we read the Bible the more we will have faith and receive God’s promises.  God is faithful to His promises and His word. He says He is a God that cannot lie (Numbers 23:19). In that case, we can rest assured that all we ask for from God, in line with God’s word will be given to us.

God will reward you for your good works

Thursday 25th May 2017

″Is it not lawful for me to do what I wish with my own things? Or is your eye evil because I am good.”

Matthew 20:15

God has made us stewards over the earth’s possessions (Genesis 2:15). We have been given wisdom, knowledge and understanding in order to choose how to make the most of our personal resources. God has given us freedom to decide the choice to make with our resources. What a generous God we serve.

1, We are to be good stewards with what God blesses us with

God has given us dominion over the earth.  We have dominion over the land and animals which includes a lot of responsibility.

Then God said, “Let Us make man in Our image, according to Our likeness; let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over the cattle, over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”

Genesis 1:26

In order to be a good steward, we have been entrusted by God with the ability to exercise our free will over the resources we have. God’ s desire is that we use His resources for good works and when we do God blesses us.

2, God rewards good works

God is pleased when we are obedient to Him and follow His commands for He says in the Bible obedience to Him is better than sacrifice (1 Samuel  15:22). God rewards our good works and desires that we serve one another.

Then the righteous will answer Him, saying, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry and feed You, or thirsty and give You drink? When did we see You a stranger and take You in, or naked and clothe You? When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ And the King will answer and say to them, ‘Assuredly, I say to you, inasmuch as you did it to one of the least of these My brethren, you did it to Me.

Matthew 25: 37-40

Summary

Jesus was a compassionate human version of God, who aligned himself with those that society most typically writes off. Jesus had lots of compassion for the mentally ill and disabled, and healed many throughout His ministry. Jesus Christ was the expression of the goodness of the Lord and had His support to the point of death. As a result, Jesus has been rewarded with power and authority and offered the gift of salvation through His name. Good works definitely pay off! When we are a good stewards of God’s resources, we can truly have the freedom to bless others as we see fit, meet our God given purpose and please God through our choice of good works at the same time.

Do you want God to direct your paths?

Wednesday 31 May 2017

Do you want God to direct your paths?

In all your ways acknowledge Hi

And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:6

We all want to know that we are walking in our purpose and in the correct path that God has mapped out for us. So what can you do for God to direct your path?

  1. Acknowledge God

First and foremost we are told that we should acknowledge God if we want Him to direct our paths. The way we do this is to present everything we are doing to the Lord and ask Him to direct our steps:

In all your ways acknowledge Him,

And He shall direct your paths.

Proverbs 3:6

  1. Ask for His direction

Like the Psalmist, we too must ask God to show us the path that we should take and which road we should follow:

Show me the right path, O Lord; point out the road for me to follow.

Psalm 25:4

  1. Commit all your ways to God

When we commit all our ways to the Lord, He will direct our steps and bring whatever we have committed to Him to pass:

Commit everything you do to the LORD. Trust him, and he will help you

Psalm 37:5

In summary, for God to direct our paths, we must acknowledge Him, ask for His direction and commit all our ways to Him.

Prayer

Dear Lord, I commit everything I do to You therefore please lead me in the path of righteousness in Jesus name.

What is the secret of obtaining favor with God and people Part 2

Wednesday 17th May 2017

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart. Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

Proverbs 3:3-4 (NLT)

Last week, we learned that to obtain favor with God and people, we must be loyal, kind, respect God and believe in Jesus Christ. Today we will explore three more secrets to obtaining favor:

  1. Be humble

Humility is having a deep sense of one’s (moral) littleness; modesty, and lowliness of mind. It is being aware that we are nothing without the grace of God upon our lives and therefore having total dependence on God. When we humble ourselves we will obtain favor from God:

Toward the scorners He is scornful, but to the humble He gives favor.

Proverbs 3:34 (ESV)

  1. Seek God’s favor

God says we will find Him when we seek Him with all of our heart. Therefore as we develop a relationship with Him, we can, like the Psalmist ask God to shower us with His favor:

Remember me, O Lord, when You show favor to Your people; help me when You save them

Psalm 106: 4 (ESV)

  1. Seek God’s Kingdom first

When we put God first in everything we do, and seek for the establishment of His kingdom here on earth, He gives us other things that we did not ask for including favor:

But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.

Matthew 6:33 (KJV)

Prayer

Dear Lord, please remember me when You show favor to Your people; help me when You save them in Jesus name.

What is the secret to obtaining favor with God and people?

Never let loyalty and kindness leave you! Tie them around your neck as a reminder. Write them deep within your heart.

Then you will find favor with both God and people, and you will earn a good reputation.

Proverbs 3:3-4 (NLT)

In life we see that there are some people who enjoy more favor than others. They get more preferential treatment wherever they go. They have what we may call favor operating in their lives. What is the secret to obtaining favor with God and people? We will explore some of the secrets below:

  1. Be Loyal

If you and I want to have favor operating in our lives, we need to be loyal as stated in Proverbs above. To be loyal is to be trustworthy and faithful, someone who others can depend on:

He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him

Proverbs 2:8 (NLT)

  1. Be Kind

When we are kind we obtain favor from God and from people. Kindness can open doors that you never thought imaginable. Therefore let us be kind one to another:

And be ye kind one to another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, even as God for Christ’s sake hath forgiven you.

Ephesians 4:32 (NLT)

  1. Fear God

The Lord showers His favor on those who fear and reverence Him therefore let us have an attitude of reverence and respect for God if we want to obtain His favor in our lives:

The Lord favors those who fear Him, Those who wait for His lovingkindness.

Psalm 147:11 (NASB)

  1. Believe in Jesus Christ

When we accept Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord, His blood washes away our sins and we become righteous and obtain a right relationship with God. He promises to favor the righteous:

For thou, Lord, wilt bless the righteous; with favor wilt thou compass him as with a shield.

Psalm 5:12 (KJV)

Next week, God willing, we will look at part 2 of the secrets to obtaining favor with God and people.

Prayer

Dear Lord, thank You for blessing me. Please surround me with Your favor like a shield in Jesus name.
