How do you obtain the blessing from the Lord? 

The blessing of the Lord makes one rich,

And He adds no sorrow with it.

Proverbs 10:22

We are told that it is the blessing of the Lord that makes one rich. Richness has to do with both physical as well as spiritual riches. The question then is, how do we obtain the blessing of the Lord?

1. Be obedient to the Lord

When we are obedient to the Lord, He promised that He will bless us in everything we do:

Now it shall come to pass, if you diligently obey the voice of the Lord your God, to observe carefully all His commandments which I command you today, that the Lord your God will set you high above all nations of the earth. And all these blessings shall come upon you and overtake you, because you obey the voice of the Lord your God:

Deuteronomy 28:1-3

2. Pray and ask for His blessing

Jabez, whose name meant sorrow, prayed and asked God to bless him and expand his territory and to keep him from evil so that it will not cause him pain (1 Chronicles 4:10).

Likewise, Jacob restled with the Angel of God and said he would not let him go until he blessed him.

Then the man said, “Let me go, for it is daybreak.” But Jacob replied, “I will not let you go unless you bless me.”

Genesis 32:26 (NIV)

3. Sow good seeds for a rich harvest

The third way we can obtain the blessing is to sow good seeds. When there was famine in the land, Isaac wanted to run to Egypt, however he listened to the voice of God and sowed seeds in the land and the Lord blessed him and gave him a 100 fold harvest. He can do the same when you sow according to the leading of the Spirit:

When Isaac planted his crops that year, he harvested a hundred times more grain than he planted, for the LORD blessed him.

Genesis 26:12 (NLT)

Why should we meditate on the Word of God?

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success (Joshua 1:8)

Just like Joshua, God has a promise land that He has placed before all of us to possess, however before we can go in and possess the land and have good success, there are certain principles that God wants us to follow:

What does God want us to do?

1. Keep the Word of the Lord in your mouth

This means that we must speak the Word of God whether circumstances are favourable or not. For example when we are weak the Lord wants us to declare that we are strong (Joel 3:10). This doesn’t deny the fact that we are feeling weak, but we are declaring the outcome that The Lord will make us strong. Speaking the Word of God is important because that is how our faith will increase:

So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God (Romans 10:17)

2. Meditate on the Word of God day and night

According to Strong’s Concordance, to meditate is to “moan, growl, utter, speak and muse”. In other words when you meditate you ponder on and then declare the Word of God. You don’t just do it in the morning but also in the night. When you do this the Bible tells us that you are blessed:

Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the path of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; But his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he meditates day and night (Psalms 1:1-2)

3. Observe and do according to what is written in the Word

To observe means you pay a close attention to what the Word is saying and then you do it:

But be doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving yourselves (James 1:22)

Why should we meditate on The Word of God?

1. You shall make your way prosperous

To be prosperous in all your ways refers to well-being, having favour with God and man and being wealthy. It means that when you ponder on and declare the Word of God you will flourish in your spirit, soul, body as well as in your finances, and God take pleasure in making His servants prosperous:

Let them shout for joy and be glad, who favor my righteous cause; and let them say continually, “Let the Lord be magnified, Who has pleasure in the prosperity of His servant” (Psalm 35:27)

2. You shall have good success

Success is achieving all of what God has ordained for you with excellence. Successful people have wisdom and understanding, and are skilful in what they do. Success comes when we obey the commandments of God:

My son, do not forget my teaching, but let your heart keep my commandments, for length of days and years of life and peace they will add to you. Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck; write them on the tablet of your heart. So you will find favor and good success in the sight of God and man (Proverbs 3:1-4 ESV)

A time for Joy has come!

The Bible tells us that to everything there is a time and a season for every purpose under heaven:

A time to weep,

And a time to laugh;

A time to mourn,

And a time to dance;

Ecclesiastes 3:4

I hear the Lord saying that now is the season and time to laugh and to dance. The Lord is telling those of us who have shed tears, some of us publicly, some of us privately, that we will reap a harvest of joy. From today God Almighty is telling us to rejoice in Him. Let us sing, let us shout, let us play instruments of praise, let us dance before the Lord our maker:

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy.

Psalm 126:5

For his anger endureth but a moment; in his favour is life: weeping may endure for a night, but joy cometh in the morning.

Psalm 30:5

Prayer:

Now the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, that ye may abound in hope, through the power of the Holy Ghost.

Romans 15:13
